You’re the one person standing between everyone and total extinction. But here, being the saviour of the world mostly involves sitting at a gas station, looking after a radio antenna and hoping the President eventually gets in touch. Yeah, that’s the situation in The Spotter: Dig or Die.
The Spotter: Dig or Die is a strange little digging and tower defense game from Doghowl Games
You play as The Spotter, an unlucky person stationed at the worst gas station in Nevada. Your job is to hold the line against hordes of mutants crawling out of the ruins of Las Veganos. Meanwhile, you’re also waiting for a message from the President that could potentially save what’s left of humanity. Unfortunately, a massive sandstorm buries your station and destroys your only receiver.
The Spotter: Dig or Die revolves around two different activities. During the day, you head underground to dig for resources, while nighttime is reserved for defending your gas station from increasingly nasty mutant hordes.
You descend into a mine, collect resources, discover useful stuff and try to get back before fatigue catches up with you. You’ve got to manage your time, too, because every expedition is a race against the clock.
You can upgrade your shovel into a proper planet-cracking drill, improve your jetpack and enhance your character and gadgets. There’s also plenty of scrap to collect, which you’ll eventually turn into better equipment for keeping your base alive.
Then the sun goes down, and glowing creatures start swarming your gas station. You’ll need to set up automated machine guns, laser cannons and rocket launchers to keep them away. Barriers, traps and mines also. And when things get particularly messy, you can jump behind the main turret yourself and start blasting everything that moves.
