Sony Confirms It’s Secured Enough Memory To Meet Hardware Demand Through March

Sony Interactive Entertainment has revealed during its latest financial report that it has secured sufficient memory to meet its hardware demand through March 2028.

“Regarding memory procurement for next fiscal year, based on discussions held so far with various suppliers, we have aligned on the quantity of memory needed for our projected hardware unit sales,” said the console maker. What isn’t known at this point is what its projections for hardware are for the next fiscal year, and if PS6 included in the mix.

As previously reported, Sony revealed during its financials that the PS5 has now shipped 97.9 million units globally since its launch in November 2020, and that development of its next-generation system is “progressing as scheduled.” To top it all off, Marvel’s Wolverine has sold 2.4 million copies worldwide since its September release.

Memory components have become increasingly more difficulty to acquire in recent times – and as a result, more expensive – due to AI data centres gobbling up crucial hardware. For now at least, it appears Sony isn’t having any problems obtaining memory, but we’ll have to see how things change in the next year or so.

As for the PS6, the hardware manufacturer hasn’t officially revealed the console yet despite countless rumours doing the rounds for the past few years. Back in August, Sony’s CEO, Hiroki Totoki, said the company had yet to settle on a release date for the new console.
