Shueisha Games and LASTWONDER have announced that HOSHiN ENGi Re:surrection is in development for Nintendo Switch 2.
Ryu Fujisaki took inspiration from the 16th-century Chinese epic Investiture of the Gods for HOSHiN ENGi, his fan-favourite manga that was serialised in Weekly Shonen Jump throughout the 1990s. Decades later, the series returns with HOSHiN ENGi Re:surrection, a roguelite action game that continues the story beyond the manga’s conclusion.
You play as Toshin, a new hero that Fujisaki has drawn for the game. Challenged to brave ever-shifting dungeons that are reconfigured with each run, the game’s combat revolves around Paope, which are legendary treasures wielded by gods and immortals. These can be combined into powerful builds and enhanced through upgrades.
Toshin is joined by a spirit beast companion that fights by his side on the ground and can be mounted to take battles into the skies. The game brings it all to life with a visual style that faithfully recreates the look and feel of the manga in motion.
The publisher has outlined the game’s key features, which include:
- Dual-slot Paope customisation: Combat revolves around two distinct slots. A Main Paope anchors primary offensive capabilities, while a Sub Paope dynamically alters the tactical flow of battle. Maximising upgrades unlocks devastating evolved attacks from an extensive pool of combinations.
- Autonomous spirit beast support: Toshin’s companion, Chuchue Doji, acts independently on the ground to defend him and disrupt foes. Mounting Chuchue Doji unlocks specialised aerial actions, allowing players to navigate the skies, evade strikes, and ambush enemies from their blind spots.
- Branching dungeon paths: Every venture features a dynamically changing layout. Players navigate from island to island along split routes, with completion rewards revealed in advance to ensure strategic pathfinding is just as vital as combat mastery.
- Rewarding progression loop: Secret Arts are discovered at random mid-run, while gathered resources can be carried back to the hub. Spending these materials unlocks permanent enhancements for Toshin and individual Paope, ensuring even failed attempts drive future success forward.
- Bonds with legendary allies: Connect deeply with iconic characters like Taikobo, Supushan, Yozen, Nataku, and Koh Tenka through hub interactions and mid-run dialogue. Developing stronger relationships unlocks their battlefield support and provides opportunities to spar for valuable rewards.
HOSHiN ENGi Re:surrection will be released digitally on the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo Switch 2 worldwide in 2027.
