Valve has opened up pre-orders for its newest VR peripheral, but it's gonna cost you.
Ozzie Mejia September 14, 2026 11:12 AM Valve 1With the ongoing hardware crisis, there wasn't much hope for Valve's upcoming Steam Frame peripheral. The company's latest VR headset had been teased for almost a full year, but that was before RAM shortage began to hit a critical point. On Monday, Valve finally revealed its Steam Frame and opened it up for pre-order, but it's going to cost a pretty penny, starting out at $1,059 USD.

Valve's Steam Frame will feature a 4nm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor, 16GB of Unified LPDDR5X RAM, a 72 to 144Hz refresh rate for 2160x2160 resolution per eye. It will run the newest SteamOS 3 operating system, allowing it to run as a full-blown PC, and it comes with the latest Steam Frame Controllers that work with both VR and non-VR games. The headset will operate with a plug-and-play 6GHz wireless adapter for a stronger and more stable connection. More details on the headset's specs can be found on the Steam Frame website.
The Steam Frame was unveiled in November 2025 alongside the Steam Machine and Steam Controller. It was initially set for Summer 2026, but the impacts of the RAM and storage shortages led to speculation that the headset might have quietly been delayed.
Steam users can sign-up to reserve the Steam Frame starting today on the Steam Frame page. The 256GB unit will sell for $1,059 USD while a 1TB unit will go for $1,299 USD with optional add-ons available. Sign-ups will close on Thursday, September 17 with selected customers informed via email about their potential purchase.

Ozzie Mejia Senior EditorOzzie has been playing video games since picking up his first NES controller at age 5. He has been into games ever since, only briefly stepping away during his college years. But he was pulled back in after spending years in QA circles for both THQ and Activision, mostly spending time helping to push forward the Guitar Hero series at its peak. Ozzie has become a big fan of platformers, puzzle games, shooters, and RPGs, just to name a few genres, but he’s also a huge sucker for anything with a good, compelling narrative behind it. Because what are video games if you can't enjoy a good story with a fresh Cherry Coke?
