Microsoft has begun testing a pay-as-you-go option for Xbox Cloud Gaming that allows players to stream supported games without an Xbox Game Pass subscription. The feature is available to eligible Xbox Insiders starting October 21, 2026, with a broader rollout planned for November.
Players can purchase 10 hours of cloud gaming for $3.99, 25 hours for $7.99, or 50 hours for $11.99. These introductory packages provide ad-free streaming, shorter waiting times, and higher-quality streams, according to Microsoft. Purchased hours remain available until used.
However, purchasing cloud playtime does not include access to the Xbox game library. Players must already own a supported cloud-playable game or choose from select free-to-play titles. This separates the cost of streaming from game ownership, giving players an alternative to maintaining a recurring Game Pass subscription.
Microsoft is also testing free, ad-supported Xbox Cloud Gaming access for Insiders without Game Pass. The new paid packages offer another option for players who prefer streaming without ads or want shorter queue times.
For now, the paid cloud playtime feature is limited to eligible Xbox Insiders. Availability, purchasing options, supported games, and streaming features may vary depending on the region, device, account eligibility, and preview ring. Microsoft is collecting feedback ahead of the planned November expansion.
Players interested in testing the feature can join the Xbox Insider Program through the Xbox Insider Hub on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, or Windows PC.
